Preseason and seasonal workouts: Pre-season: The general purpose for pre-season basketball training is to prepare the athletes for the demands of the up coming season. It is the job of the strength and conditioning coach, player, and pre-season workouts coach to get the athlete in the best basketball shape possible to cope with the rigorous practice and game schedule that will follow. This five-month season is very demanding, even for highly trained athletes. Often the first 5 to 8 weeks before the season are the most important. Pre-season emphasizes skills, drills, instructional play and conditioning. Season: The general purpose for season workouts in to maintain skill level and confidence. A major component of competitive success deals with controlling fear. In athletics, fear of failure, fear of looking bad, and fear of not meeting expectations all inhibit how an athlete performs. Season workouts allow use repetition to maintain skill and develop mental toughness along with skills and drills. Teams and players who are mentally tough perform at a higher level while players deal with the everyday demands of the basketball season and helps eliminate dealing with pressure. Nothing is more frustrating for a basketball player than to come into a season in top shape, sporting razor sharp skills and a sky high attitude, only to see his performance gradually decline over the course of the competitive campaign until by post-season play he is but a shell of his early season self. It is absolutely crucial that athletes take the appropriate steps to avoid this performance deterioration. The program emphasizes repetition of drills and shooting. Video breakdown is sometime required when helping players during the season to improve individual and team success. No games or competitive drills during season.
